One of my favorite scenes in rap right now

Refreshing beat selection, run off flows, a bunch of interesting characters/personalities scattered throughout the scene, a couple guys with a real shot to have careers in music

One of the few scenes where the street rappers are successfully finding ways to bring more left field nuances into their regional sounds intentionally without it sound like some bullshit

I respect how much they do their homework over there and I think a lot more regions will take note of whats going on pretty soon

Yeah, I mean a lot of these artist are kids with unfortunate beginnings from St Louis. You can open carry at like 19. Can you blame them? lol

But yeah thats a great point..there's a lot of similarities between St. Louis scene and DMV Scene..and even the New North Carolina music

    and no problem bro

    odd

  • STL rap is too trap / drill driven, that's why I can't get into it fr. Not really interested in the image of STL as a crime city being central to the rise of the city's hip hop scene. And when the scene is small enough that you can very easily link the real bodies dropping behind it, it doesn't seen that appealing putting it nicely (especially when STL city is so small it can very easily be your own family member).

Here's hoping the scene evolves beyond being so heavily drill, there are many who aren't making the type of music in STL but don't get the attention.

  • Sound good I’m gonna tap in

its the subject matter, its not unique, and it comes with all the negatives of niggas getting themselves locked up and dying

really caps potential cuz they stagnate in that area

So let me just ask you something in response..was early Chicago Drill not the same s***/WAY worse?

    Nothing you're saying is wrong.

But I'm just saying you can apply this to a lot of regions of rap that eventually evolved.

These kids are rapping on pretty contemporary/unique beats, thats usually the moment of shift.

That's your opinion and I respect it..and I aint even on no sarcastic s***

But I offer you this POV: the same way you think this..I want you to know the artist that are going to win from these respective street rap scenes are smart, just like you, and understand this as well.

It starts with the beats, and then its the lyrical content/branding that evolves after in my opinion.

It happened in Atlanta. It happened in Chicago. It happened in Milwaukee. It happened in the DMV. It happened in Detroit.

Idk I just have a hard time counting things like this out when I've only seen history repeat itself in this matter in the ast 5 years or so..but yeah

I mean I feel we've seen it dating back to Keef and everyone else, some stay outta trouble, others aren't so fortunate. I think it's easy entry, so it won't ever completely die out, but slows down like we saw with NY.

Even for Atlanta which I kept up with the most being from here, I feel like Glokk the only name I felt has shown much growth. Wouldn't even label him drill per say

Anti, Ola, etc prison. Dirtball, babydrill, etc got stagnant artistically. Just me personally, but it's more like a needle in a haystack long term. More I wish in the South at least we'd get back to talking about trapping, I'm burnt out on the killing niggas s***. Guys can rap, it's not like they have to be in a bag about drilling s***, we can move forward and still be rapping about ignorant s*** y'know
