they had a show in NYC last night and booklets were given out revealing a new LP, Sucker Chump, out next year on XL
Holy s*** finally
Is @op still active?
If not then someone should make a new thread in anticipation for the new album

damn didn't see this ping but if op remains inactive can make a new 1
I can’t really get hyped without Slauson tbh
For me this act kind of had a doomed trajectory, it’s confusing the way it seemed to present as a group initially and then become just the one person. Just not good marketing/presentation and hurt my ability to identify with the brand

Your brain is so fried, you are overcomplicating the s*** outta this.
Its a black art collective. Thats it

I don’t feel like i over complicated it lol, I think the presentation and leaving of a core member made it kind of complicated but fair enough

naw like you can tell from his later work that Slauson's production added a lot but their collaboration started from him working on Gio's demos of songs and how I understood his role in SOTC it was very much as a producer in service of Gio's vision.
when you listen to Angel for example it's clear there was already a lot of producing genius provided by Gio or whoever else is now involved in the prod - it's very much also a whole collective / band with a lot more talent than these 2 involved, it seems to be Gio's brainchild but he's also "only" a bandleader.

Yeah that definitely makes sense. I guess it’s just, the way I was introduced to them I didn’t fully get that. So when Slauson went off and did such amazing stuff I lost a little bit of interest in Gio tbh but that might not be fair.
I guess I’d be interested to see what the actual line up is for the next album but my interpretation now is it seemed like it was basically just Gio, like with the way he’s credited on features. But I guess we’ll see and I’ll give it a shot

SOTC always had a bit of a jazz and jam and also more out there spiritual focus, there's a lot of overlap w Slauson solo but it's still a pretty distinct project
if you haven't yet peep their 2020 singles easily 2 of their best imo and first XL releases so p hype for a full-length label release. brilliant vids also
Wait this is just one person?
I'm pretty sure that the Standing on the Corner features for Earl, Solange and Danny Brown are Gio solo but otherwise this is usually a band w Gio the leader... not 100% confirmed anywhere tho
i think this is the whole band (dude w the glasses used to date solange iirc)
My homie syl in the middle
Was so hyped when he started playing with them
they’re teasing the release date of their new album on Instagram, seems like it’s dropping on November 22
