Agreed. He definitely had some legit flaws in GB but at least he recognized he needed to change some things and has made legit attempts to. We’ll see if he actually has.
It needs to be said he was also hamstrung by Ted Thompson who refused to bring in ANY outside FA’s. Before the 2017 and 2018 seasons he only ever had 1 losing season in GB.... 2008 in Rodgers’ first season as starting QB and then in 2017 when Rodgers only played 7 games... and then went 4-7-1 in 2018
GB’s offense didn’t even improve under LaFleur. They averaged the same PPG in 2019 that they did in 2018 and dropped from 7th in DVOA in 2018 to 8th in 2019.... they improved so much because they turned their defense around by actually bringing in impact outside FA’s.
He was definitely carried by Rodgers.... by why don’t people say the same thing about Payton? He only has 1 SB with Brees and Payton actually had 3 straight losing seasons not too long ago. McCarthy just seemed like a scapegoat in GB.
McCarthy in GB was similar to Reid in Philly imo. They were both still good coaches, the teams were just ready to change things up and go with someone new.
Talk yourself into it
Mike deserves a chance to show that he can and has adapted as a head coach and offensive mind. People are going to hate on this because it’s the cowboys and it’s an uninspiring hire but from a resume perspective, he’s as good, if not better, than any other candidate available right now
McCarthy was just way too conservative and was carried by one of the most talented players ever. He should have been fired after that hellscape of a game in the 2014 nfc championship.

We dont talk about that game, what nfc championship?
