there isnt a functions value for anything except the price you tag it with technically so. just like real life. You don't even have to sell it if you not wish to

So what you’re saying is this market was basically meant to fail after the initial sales

No, as far as i see:
    opensea.io/collection/boredapeyachtclub?tab=activity
you can see the top collection still getting sales for $300k-400k in an out.

Market is down in general but will be back up in a while.

It just said 10k active wallets per week? At its height 100k

have to look at the volume in big marketplaces like opensea. But 10k active wallets per day still is pretty fine, also its only for the ethereum blockchain, there are other blockchains as well and their nft users

What reason is there to invest in NFTs at this point, outside of a promise like that?

1st: You bet on the artist to get big, while you buy their limited art for cheaper price while they are small

2nd: Investment and bet on appreciation which can happen quickly with nfts

Personally I wouldnt buy there 300-400k$ ones but try to snipe some promising artists work and let it appreciate

yep and fear of missing out and new technology boom and status symbol aspect etc. Its just digital art, some people be using NFTs in their home as art on special monitors.

This doesn’t seem like a market worth supporting in any way

Volatile, predicated on cultural fads that only grow more short lived, insecure, devoid of material function to secure asset value, and entirely niche
