i mean a lot of people would take kendrick's 6 best over wayne's 6 best, hes newer, he has more content, hes more consistent, he doesnt have many lows thats not a crazy thing to say tho i can see that view

(i agree with it too if we talking as an artist but thats besides the point)

But it's always the best rappers who never want to be outright called a "rapper" though.

Honestly, I think too many bandwagon music fans sided with Kendrick over Drake in the beef for moral or virtuous reasons over rap related ones which is a mistake.

Kendrick said straight up that it was just competition. But, tbh, Kendrick did make it worse when he tried to explain the meaning of NLU.

Take Fantano for instance. Fantano made a whole video whining about Kendrick working with Carti due to Carti fitting the profile of a man that Kendrick said he didn't like to associate with in his disses. And Fantano called Kendrick a hypocrite and said that "Kendrick isn't your savior(something Kendrick said himself on his last album).

I don't even think it's Kendrick. I think it's people desperate to find a "rap savior" who will serve as a moral crusader who will "fix" hip hop. Kendrick himself never once tried to promote himself that way but a lot of his post NLU bandwagon fans have.

And now they're learning the hard way that Kendrick is still a rap nigga and that he still has no problem associating with the "bad guys" in hip hop if they have a connection.

These post NLU/beef fans want Kendrick to be something he's not and "cleanse" the hip hop game. Even Dee-1 basically said this when talking about the reception to Wayne's album. He said people are s***ting on it because it's not "conscious" as opposed to it being musically mediocre. And that's a very pretentious way of looking at it.

In a way, it's similar to how Eminem back in the day had all these casual fans who would s*** on hip hop and claim he's the only one rapping about "real life" even though Em himself had a completely different outlook.

There is a large demographic of rap “fans” that aren’t really fans of the culture/genre but attach themselves to artist they feel are above “traditional rap” whether artistically or even aesthetic log even tho those artist themselves make it known how rooted in the culture they are

So they project their expectations onto artists, doesn’t help that the media sensationalizes these artists also

I’ve thought Kendrick was the eventual GOAT rapper since 2011. I love that he’s finally getting his due respect.

But I can see why someone whose favorite rapper is someone else would feel this way. I think it’s more to do with the fact this “era” is coinciding with basically no other big names dropping.

yea performative nothing music. that palestine protestor getting pulled off stage at his superbowl performance encapsulates how serious his music really is.. Hes gonna make another marvel soundtrack to another US-Military - Palantir propaganda movie and make another 100 million and ride it out. sad truth.
