Too late, resident lupe fan already approved, proving my point
Yeah but the original line was a punchline.
The way you reworded doesn’t even work because you took out that element and it’s just going to rightfully make people wonder wtf he’s talking about lol

You just described the entire difference between someone like Lupe and someone Nicki’s approach to wordplay/entendres/“bars”
One is really in your face in an instantly ear catching and gratifying way which appeals to casual listeners but can be seen as too on the nose or “cringe/corny” by the aficionado
While the Lupe approach is much more subtle, he could use a similar turn of phrase but bury it casually in a stream of thought rather than hitting you over the head with it in a set up punchline structure. Making you think about it for a second before catching it, which can give the more seasoned listener a gratifying experience of “oh s*** I just caught that” and then think “this guys a genius to just throw that in there like that” but will also go over some heads especially the casuals
A lot of validity to both approaches and I was just attempting to demonstrate the similarity and difference at the same time
But basically it’s not that jay or Lupe’s pun game is just so good, it’s more the approach and nuance that sets them apart. I think more direct punchlines are becoming overhated though by a generation who gets off on “cringing” at everything. I don’t care, “I’m a star… SHERRIFF BADGE” will always be one of the hardest bars of life
This is getting exhausting.
What does Nicki mean “scared of me putting a song out but tryna spar with the queen”, just put the song out
Now say it on wax by morning.

Damn you didn’t have to write all that lmao I agree with you and there are many subtle and smart things in Lupe’s music that I have already accepted I will never fully understand I just think saying there are sherif badges in the night sky sounds ed lol

It was a quick off the cuff example lol the point was picture lupe putting a more subtle spin on a piece of wordplay like that.

Lil Ju produced the song (with Juicy J) & won’t clear it bc he’s team Meg

That seems like a weird story. Almost sounds like a made up industry story. Tell Nicki to send me the stems I’ll have it ready to release without his contributions in an hour minutes and I’ll do it for free
If he dropped that bar worded slightly different
“Sky of blackness covered in sheriffs badges”
It would be considered bars/lyricism
I could hear him saying this

It's another "drake" situation.
Niggas dont got nothing to say so they gotta make some s*** up to cover they tracks smh.

Yo I believe it. Because this just seems like a bs story to feed the pop stans. They like stories about “clearance” and stuff like that
My interpretation last night was she went in the booth, recorded those couple bars she previewed, started tweaking and went live off top to just get it off right there and then but then she never finished it and just kept tweeting. I give Meg respect right now for keeping it to records because Nicki looking bad
heres what it originally was i assume she completely redid it
dam she look good without makeup
Always Team Megan. Nicki needs to stop enabling her gay male fanbase to go after black women. That's just gross.

We need to talk about how they are all the same people. The Barbz, Arianators, Swifties, ARMY, there is an overlap.

Barbz are actually bout that action
Barbz gonna catch a Rico charge
