Honestly, this feels like revisionist history of Kanye's grift pre-Death Con.
The GOP only distanced themselves from Kanye after October 2022 when he started getting associated with antisemitism.
Prior to that incident, Ye was more than embraced by the GOP. He got to visit the White House for a meeting with Trump in 2018, was able to talk Trump into freeing ASAP Rocky from a jail in Sweden, was glazed by GOP commentators online, was invited to many Evangelical events and churches, had people unironically voting for him on the ballot in 2020, etc. Even the White Lives Matter shirts were in hot demand before Ye went off the deep end.
I feel this take has strong recency bias to it. I can't think of another rapper who had as much pull on the GOP as 2018-2020 era Kanye. Wayne, Kodak, Wacka Flocka, Snoop, Ross, Soulja Boy, Ice Cube, Lil Pump, etc. never came anywhere close to Kanye.
