Khruanbing uses a lot of funk influences, and some hendrix influence but they don’t go heavy like him.

Metal is probably your best bet for modern bands. I’m not much of a metal fan but witch had a decent album back in ‘06

but honestly its interesting/sad how the babies of miles, pharaoh, the coltranes, sun ra ect. can be found today w the likes of kasami, terrace martin, ect. but quality bands that carry on the mantle of the psychedelic soul/blues rock/funk sound started by the likes of brown/sly/hendrix/cox/clinton/hazel/ ect. are hard to find

the problem i have with the small amounts of metal i've listened to is either the vocals dont do anything for me, the sounds are too dark/brooding, not enough guitar/drum chops or the melodies aren't varied enough for my liking, but ill keep searching.
