Xenoblade Chronicles is like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest in that sequel titles are not continuations of story but rather similar elements

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a standalone game and then there's a prologue expansion for that called Torna ~ The Golden Country

u can play XC2 and then play Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition afterwards and it won't matter
