Nah, certain genres like fighting games and racers are excused.

A game like Zelda should have an amazing story.

Shadow of the Colossus & Ico have very minimal story telling, even less than BOTW. Same genre, yet they’re incredible games.

BOTW has one of the more interesting backstories and set of characters imo, and most Zelda stories aren’t anything to write home about anyways.

story for BOTW is that 100 years ago the king of Hyrule appointed champions and then s*** happened and left Link asleep for 100 years waking up to a barren land because of Ganon

you have to discover the world and reunite with the former champions by defeating the 4 main dungeons and then Ganon himself

if you look for it, there's PLENTY more backstory for fans that want to indulge tbh it's pretty deep with a lot of potential for growth in the sequel

I slurped up Pokemon because it’s my 4th favorite series ever. I don’t rank Zelda that high to begin with.

i just said why it isn't simple (backstory) and explained the entire point of the game

all u gotta do is turn it on and play it however you want, so what's to get bored with? it's only 4 main dungeons and the final castle

really everything else is optional, ur friend just doesn't enjoy top tier survival/adventure games with action roleplaying in a similar style of Dark Souls OR ur friend isn't actually a Zelda fan and is actually obsessed with the nostalgic moments he had with OoT and/or Majora's Mask

also in the same logical context:
BOTW trumps TP and WW and Skyward Sword easily

Now I just got a notification that it got delayed to January 7th 🤦🏽‍♂️
