How standalone is this one? Seems like it could be a pretty big jump from the previous 2.
I’ve only played a bit of the first.

I spent so long min/maxing my build in Nioh 2 and the fact that you can now min/max two builds with Samura/Ninja is insane to me

Is this a monster hunter situation where all the weapons are viable and it depends on your play style or are there “best” weapons?

I would say Odachi is the best but that's definetely not because I'm biased and have 200 hours on that weapon in Nioh 2.
Reality is that every weapon is viable, just pick the one you think looks cool. The early game a bit deceiving on how some weapons feel because you unlock more skills with the weapons as you progress. Swords for example felt pretty mediocre to me in Nioh 2 so I dropped them early but I always see people pull off some crazy tech with it and it seems like the skill ceiling for that weapon is pretty high

Any weapon is good honestly

severing spin (hellfire version) for the katana might be the best skill in the game right now

I feel like I’m constantly babysitting my ki in boss fights so I’m never having fun or entering a flow state

switching to samurai for the boss helped, in ninja mode I’m constantly getting exhausted and then downed in the ki-less state

This ki management aspect is an important part of Nioh. I promise you, you will get better at it to the point where you will enter a flow state and it will feel satisfying as f*** when you do.

There is a skill called Ki Flux in Samurai mode where you get even further increase in Ki if you time it correctly and also switch stances at the same time; depending on the weapon type it can feel really satisfying to pull of.

I'm not sure how Ninja is going to play out since its new to the series but on top of just getting used to Ki pulses, there's quite a few randomly rolled stats in gear that also make ki management easier (not saying that you have to depend on this to make ki management bareable, just easier). For now, it looks like ki management in Ninja is using Ninjutsu whilst low since they don't consume Ki

did everything possible in the demo. killed the blood edge demon. also finessed my way up to that level 50 boss we aren't supposed to be able to reach and killed him too

Think it spawns in different spots but it’s a big purple summon thing and you summon him in to fight

as soon as i started the demo it hit me like crack and i 100%‘d every part of the map in a single playthrough

it‘s literally the game i always wished for

make sure to abuse the R1 dodge with ninja as it costs you no ki at all

also i heard in the full game there will be a skill that lets you recover ki as well but i‘m not sure how true that is

yeah you gotta kill the guys that spawn from red graves

after a while you will see their souls flying in a certain direction (also hinted at by red arrows on the map) follow those arrows and at one point he will show up

make sure you‘re ready for him though, his moveset can get wild

Enjoying the demo quite a bit but so I’m going to give Nioh 2 another shot.
