Idk man I think thers a pretty serious issue of fake news I don’t really have an issue with social media censoring that s***

Wouldn’t be mad if they censored news altogether it’s such a big issue rn

See I’m cool with that lol

I prefer you saying "I want tech billionaires to control what I see and think" over a blatant denial of reality lol

Now you gotta understand why some people may not feel the same way as u lol

Just vote for Biden then we can attack him for 4 years :)

  • Oct 22, 2020

Meanwhile I'm supposed to feel bad for Trump because he has to field questions

    Yea I mean I agree
I think it’s in publications interests to be anti-trump
I think there is a difference though. Some of these stories are genuinely election interference s***. If it swings back I’m sure they’ll be way stricter with shaky left news but it’s harder for them to outright censor it when it’s less blatantly false

It's hard to draw the line I think. Any form of anti-institution rhetoric is going to be censored when it comes through institutions themselves (or if its like a university or something, which is another common allegation, its gonna be mutated into something which then benefits the institution lol). I would lowkey agree just disallowing all news on social media altogether from all sources may lowkey be better than picking and choose what is and isnt. Honestly if twitter genuinely cared about this and not just about benefitting themselves (which they clearly don't lol), they'd make it some accounts verified as news accounts just cant have replies or retweets, news articles can only be liked and then seen as posts in your feed if you're following them. That would probably legit fix everything and make everyone happy so long as its equally enforced. But then itd make big corporations mad because they cant have metrics to lie to their investors so itd never happen.

    I don’t think that’s the answer either
I think it needs to be actively regulated by a third-party that’s managed but independent from the government

My issue is that right now the options are tech billionaires censor s*** or the GOP actively manipulates social media to push their agenda and influence the election

Yea it won’t happen cause news is now inherently tied to social media but it’s scary the level of impact social media can have
I think a Wild West approach is just not an acceptable option when we’ve seen how it can be used

    Like s***
I used to make fake track lists for albums back on KTT1 and I’d get s*** circulating on social media to a point where major hip hop influencers were sharing it
If I can do that s*** with no budget and no money it’s terrifying what people can do with a coordinated effort

its sad because i really loved the early internet and how open everything was. but the problem is it was open because no one was using it and the internet was still mysterious and had a mystique to it. smart phones especially really ruined this because now everyone and their grand mother (literally) has internet access. the same stuff you see on the news is the same stuff you see on twitter. theres no separation anymore. and the fact that like 4 corporations control 90% of the web makes that even worse because info disseminates 100x as much. as someone who really is partial to that "wild west" era of the internet it just sucks to admit that that time has passed and things can't be like that anymore.

    Exactly
I loved that s*** back in the day but social media’s complete permeation the last 5-10 years has soured that

the unfortunate truth is voting for Trump won't fix the overwhelming corruption in the media nor biases of mainstream institutions. in fact it will probably make it worse as institutions get even more deranged to undermine branches of government who in reality aren't doing jack s*** but posting stupid s*** on twitter then not following up on it. yeah look at the GOP for proof of this. Hawley talks big talk about social media on twitter but then refuses to subpoena companies in his chair position and softballs Google employees but then goes back to complaining about them. there is no winning situation.
All the pros of bidens are canceled out by his cons and it's really the same with trump. If you're a single issue voter, then you can probably pick trump or biden easier off of that. If you aren't you're just screwed. That's why if you are going to vote, just vote so you can get involved in local and state politics which matter far more. Look at, idk, weed in colorado being legal despite being federally illegal, or if you care about immigration, states like CA refusing to help ICE and passing more sanctuary acts. State legislature matters regardless of your view and is probably the only place where you can actually get s*** done; wider federal institutions are f***ed no matter what and no one's fixing it with a vote, no less a binary one.

Yeah I think people, especially on social media, overrate the importance of federal legislation compared to local power. With the current SCOTUS makeup, states will probably be even more powerful than they are now

  • The Hunter Biden story is bullshit. Stop bringing it up.

  • Oct 22, 2020

Trump sonned the media so hard in 2016 that people are just eating s*** up. Internet really broke y’all brains

  • Oct 22, 2020

Imagine voting for someone who allowed immigrants to get sterilized and children to be separated all because “media bad” “everyone a lil racist”.

With how often the media picks up and runs with his and the right's framing of a lot of his f***ups and scandals, how can you think that the US media was been tough on him? Whenever we makes some unproven claim, the news headline reads "Trump says Obama tapped my phones" or some s*** and boom now that's the starting point of all discussion. Doesn't have to provide any proof, just a tweet or helicopter clip will do and the conversation is derailed.

Or if he manages to get thru a prewritten, teleprompter-aided speech and then pundits on all sides start claiming he's "presidential" or "coming into the position" like come tf on bro

Hell, every time someone in his orbit gets interviewed by a non-american, they get asked actual questions, get flustered and the whole clip trends online while captioned "see, this is how you interview" every damn time. That should show how rare it is to see him or his hangers-on face any real push back in US media.

I voted trump because it's funny how obsessed people got over politics. People are actually saying "it's life and death" while they comfortably live in their hundred of thousand dollar houses and go to their 80K+ annual jobs. It's going to be the most amazing upset win in american history
