It's not punk but inspired by punk and has punk elements due to the inspiration. Punk is not just a genre of music, it's more than that. It's 2020 not the 1970's or 80's anymore. We live in a new age where genres evolve.

i don't think anybody is literally trying to say that carti is making punk music, more like the sound/aesthetic of the album takes a lot of cues from the wider punk movement (and this was also the case albeit to a lesser extent with die lit). arguing that it 'isn't punk' seems kinda disingenuous based on that
