It's a internet meme to pretend to like and worship Frank like a saint. Nobody in real life really f*** with him like that.

You realize it’s because frank doesn’t have a major label (or any label) there to push him towards casual mainstream fans via radio and playlist placement

“In the first week of release, Blonde debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 and recorded 276,000 album-equivalent units—232,000 of which were purchases of the entire album.64 The songs on the album were collectively streamed more than 65.4 million times, second behind only the streams for Views by Drake during that week.64 Forbes estimated that Blonde earned Ocean nearly one million in profits after one week of availability, attributing this to him releasing the album independently and as a limited exclusive release on iTunes and Apple Music.65 Blonde has generated 404 million on-demand audio streams for its songs in the US through February 9, 2017, according to Nielsen Music. The album has earned 620,000 album-equivalent units, of which 348,000 are in traditional album sales.”

This ‘nobody listen to __ irl’ meme is the worst f***ing one yall ever made

I feel like that’s valid in some cases. With rappers like Lil Reese, he has a following online but you’ll never catch someone in real life bumping his music.

Replay value is an actual metric that exists in people’s minds? If you enjoy something you go back to it it’s not that hard

The argument isn’t about opinions it’s not even about how big he is its about if people actually listen to him at all, which they do also once again frank ocean is not on a major label which is why he doesn’t receive as much media attention as the weeknd

Frank Ocean is that one musician everyone refers to as (one of) their favorite artist(s), but no one actually listens to irl.

In the past 3 years he has had an average of 9 million monthly listeners on Spotify, which is less than 6LACK, lil yachty and even trippie redd.

I thought he would average like 20+ million monthly listeners like his peers The Weeknd, Chris Brown, Drake, etc

Why does everyone claim to love him, while in reality nobody listens to him? srs question

Why do you care tho lol bye

Why did it take ya’ll so long to explain to OP that streaming numbers and listeners are powered by playlisting, the hot 100 and radio.. All of those artists have a string of top 10 hits that are backed by label support that boosts streaming numbers by the millions. Khalid’s discog is filled with features (with other streaming juggernaunts) and humongous pop singles (meaning that his music is far more accessible). For example, Beautiful People (song with commercial juggernaut Ed Sheeran) did close to 500 mill streams, Lovely, a single by him and Billie Ellish is closing in on 800 mill, Him and Halsey about to be at 900 mill with the single Eastside.. this skyrockets his monthly listeners astronomically.. all this without a formidable base or huge media exposure. Nothing but streaming hit after hit, the others like Drake and Weeknd simply have a larger volume, their music reaches a bigger demographics with huge pop/hip hop hits that keeps their numbers up.

Frank’s last real hit was from what.. 2011/2012.. His streaming numbers come from the strength of his loyal fanbase actually listening to his albums and b sides.

Nah man. People on here think you have to listen to something every hour of every day or it’s trash and has no replay value

They get put on much more playlist.
Also they have bigger catalogs and do more features which equals more streams.

  • Oct 30, 2019

has less to do with popularity/celebrity exposure and more to do with demographic, which is dependent on the music’s accessibility, hit singles and playlisting exposure which really drives those monthly listeners up.

For example: Khalid may not be as popular as an artist/celebrity, but he has a string of features with huge commercial artists like Ed Sheeran, Halsley and Billie Ellish that garners him hundreds of millions streams on a month to month basis.. Compared to Frank’s album cuts like Forest Gump or Nights who may get 1/8 of the streams. these are the same type of singles that inflate album ‘sales’ these days.

Drake is literally the biggest streaming artist of all time and bigger than Frank in every way. Idunno what OP was trying to do with that example.. after Weeknd transition to full pop around circa ‘I can’t Feel My Fact’ the gap between him and Frank widened even more
