Yeah but is that what Beyonce is doing?

She’s a Black American trying to put a positive spin on a continent and culture that has such a terrible reputation.

Idk what the movie’s about but I’m assuming it’s like Lion King but with humans? As in takes place in an African country?

Idk but to me the intention def doesn’t seem like ignorance or appropriation. Like we’re really getting mad at Black Americans for using Black African aesthetics? This is where cancel culture has led us?

She's not the first to do so, Africa doesn't need cultural charity as nations are developing, they really could care less about what westerners think about them.
Black people around the world need to get a grip on what matters, if you have identity issues adress them, don't masquerade it as a humanitarian effort.

The 80s had African artists like Tabu Ley Rochereau and Fela Kuti
    touring the world
    Fela kuti in Amsterdam

    Tabu ley rochereau in Paris

They toured Europe whilst South Africa still had apartheid.

And Bob marley's music reached the world but Jamaica still had its political/economic issues (greatly thanks to colonial past and them being adamant about remaining active figures in third world countries affairs)

What I'm trying to say is, Africa, hell black people have always sold their stories/art/music etc its a important vessel to reach the masses and familiarize them with our affairs.
The message caries more weight than the aesthetic as the ideas remain but african apparel can be put back in one's closet ro collect dust whilst one waits for the next trendy wave.
If people wanna be ignorant and believe what unicef ads tell them about Africa, that's their own stupid ass fault at this point.

I mean there is some truth to it that Beyonce started changing her image from a pop star to a social activist when it became cool to do so and it was possible to make money from it.
But i also think that she is genuine about those issues. So its a two birds, one stone type of thing.

Having income streams ≠ being an entrepreneur.

we not gonna argue over semantics. her livelihood is funded through her art and creativity. she has to sell products based on her art to eat. Plus the other s*** she does. like her bookclub where she sells jugs and shirts.

    This.

Let’s talk about how much Beyonce profited but let’s never discuss the dozens of Black people she employed during a f***ing pandemic and economic recession.

    Yea f*** Beyonce dude

  • Jul 31, 2020

say what you want to say about Disney's exploits for using other cultures to look genuine for profit, but extremely foolish to criticize Beyonce who uses her platform to promote black creators and hiring/appreciation of them

the f*** has Noname done to think she can speak on her?

Noname probably makes most of her money off of selling her music and doing shows. Not sure I'd call her a capitalist of significant stature. She's the labor of the music industry. She's an artisan.

This is bullshi mehn. She is a Capitalist lol. She admitted it when she wasn’t against it years ago.

F***in hate Noname and the s*** she complains about. But most of the times there is some truth to her s***. She just says the wrong thing or finds the fault in every single thing while not bringing any solutions.

However this Beyonce s*** I can agree with. But on the other hand, Beyonce is speaking from her perspective and experience. She is black american with obviously african ancestry that she can't really associate with. The film to me is talking about her black experience and Africa is tied to that. Do not see any other way for Beyonce to have done this.

and noname gotta quit with the capitalism rhetoric cause she is an entrepreneur as well. Wtf does she expect people that create for a living to do.

She expects those who create for a living to join her book club, buy her suggested books, subscribe to her book club Patreon, and purchase her book club merch, so she can keep funding her life and paying her staff. All while she keeps tweeting about anti-capitalism without providing any solutions other than joining her book club.

Well I actually get where youre coming from here, but I ask again, is Beyonce masquerading this as a humanitarian effort?

Did her and Disney pledge any money to any organizations?

To me it seems like she just wanted to make a movie about how much she loves melanin and it so happened to drop during a time where Black people are at the center of attention. I don’t know why she needs to have any humanitarian effort or anything else in order to make a movie about Black people.
