obviously but it should be approached in a way that doesn’t generalize african culture as one big single entity and especially not through a billionaire capitalist making a film for one of the most immoral media conglomerates of all time

These are not the battles y’all should be fighting. I promise you If you wanna dismantle capitalism, which is a cause I 100% agree with, your not gonna do it through targeting a Beyoncé film

Saw other Africans saying this under her post and elsewhere on social media as well. What country are you from?

My family is from Senegal. I was born and raised in America, but I visit Senegal often. I promise you the people on Twitter do not represent the average African.

if you not anti-capitalist your take on that tweet doesn't matter

If you’re anti-capitalist your thoughts on the internet don’t matter

speaking so superficially about the issue is exactly how you end up thinking we can’t get anywhere

the movie is a major product of the economic imperialism that exists in the western world, where third world ideas are taken, misconstrued to appease the western mind, and then sold for profit while little is done to uplift those that we exploit

Do you really think Black Panther or Black is King are an honest and objective representation of modern Africa ? I don't think sensationalized movies like this made by Disney are the best way to reconnect Black americans with their origins.

Not honest at all but it definitely inspire more people to embrace their African roots

no, there’s nothing wrong with she said tho, only time beyonce acknowledges africa is when she needs a new aesthetic to promote to western audiences, no one is exempt from criticism

    “Acknowledges Africa”

I swear being Black is the only race that comes with requisites

I meant that they were in agreement with your sentiment. I didn’t ask where you were from to invalidate what you said. I was just genuinely curious.

Of course It’s not the best way, but if black Americans wanna indulge in a fantastical version of Africa, who are we to stop them? Who is it hurting?

It's not black americans but white people, Black Panther came from the mind of a white person and this movie only exist because of the Lion King and disney. At this point they're just using Africa to make more money and pressure people to watch all this s*** because it celebrate Africa and black people.

There’s nothing wrong with black Americans trying to reconnect with a culture that was stolen from them

Why make it Disney who ripped off South African artists with lion king soundtrack?

Beyonce attended Tyler perry's, black owned, inauguration of the biggest studio lot in America (iirc), she could've invested in African movie companies (at least a partnership) too.
This was clearly for her woke fans to further deify her as a queen that channels her ancestors
It's not really for any other audience, which is fine and comprehensible.

i’m sure korean people would feel some way about japanese people commenting on their culture in an ignorant and appropriative manner considering they’re both asians who have a tied history

this was actually a major talking point regarding some controversy around some kpop artist early this week

Yeah but is that what Beyonce is doing?

She’s a Black American trying to put a positive spin on a continent and culture that has such a terrible reputation.

Idk what the movie’s about but I’m assuming it’s like Lion King but with humans? As in takes place in an African country?

Idk but to me the intention def doesn’t seem like ignorance or appropriation. Like we’re really getting mad at Black Americans for using Black African aesthetics? This is where cancel culture has led us?
