they didnt go anywhere but their albums from the 2000s are magical they don't even feel real these days
i feel like gen z doesn't care for animal collective much
big millenial/zoomer divide indicator

I’m actually surprised they don’t have a new watered down anco yet lol maybe too early but I have no faith in humanity if gen z doesn’t recreate anco from first principles
One of the greatest three song live runs OAT

The way they reworked Sweet Road and Bees for Moogfest 2017 will forever haunt my memories because I could have easily been there but I wasn’t there. Starts at 29:00

when influence is threatened
maybe I should let them
maybe we should let them
and I have a question
ARE YOU
ALSO
FRIGHTENEDDDDDD

seems as if gen z rejects anything hipster (?) adjacent except stomp and holler

tbh mid 00s is already a watered down version of early AnCo. They basically watered down Ark with every subsequent release. However, they did it well for the most part. You would have to have a highly experimental rock artist who somehow manages to become more accessible yet maintain their identity + the themes of (lost) childhood they were tackling.

i think they went somewhere. theyre career musicians, made some of the most acclaimed albums of the 21st century.
I saw panda bear last year and he had a good crowd, sold merch. theyre doing fine.
them being as counter culture/strange/experimental and cresting the mainstream at all, was an the outlier tbh
we got them playing 2 shows back to back at my job, i'm excited; not too familiar with their music to be real
