The Wire itself is incredibly corny.

The Wire hits you over the head with these stupid a***ogies. In one scene, they lay out the chess metaphor and even liken some characters to chess pieces DIRECTLY (Yo the queen is kinda like Stringer!!!), as if the viewers are too stupid to comprehend it, and they keep hitting you with these a***ogies all the time over the next 5 seasons.

The "cycles" and "nothing matters" theme is so obvious too, I mean the last scene in the show repeats it again.

Every single episode "THE GAME" gets mentioned, and how "THE GAME IS THE GAME" or "THE GAME GETS MORE FIERCE", it honestly becomes a joke over the course of the series.

There is absolutely zero subtlety to the show. It's like the show partly exists to make dumbasses feel smarter about themselves. There is zero ambiguity to any event.

I like the show regardless of these flaws, but it is not as high-brow as some people think.

Brother Mouzone is incredibly f***ing corny too. You're telling me some NOI member is reading these liberal political magazines like New Statesman like he's a West Wing extra?

Omar is kind of corny too, some of the folksy sounding s*** he says is like straight out of a comic book.

The way the cops banter with each other is corny, the first Rawls scene with the two middle fingers is incredibly corny

The Wire is straight CORN. Still a good show but more of a guilty pleasure IMO

4 was probably the greatest single season of tv I’d ever seen. I respect the show for getting you super attached to the 4 kids and only giving 1 of them a happy ending (my boy Randy didn’t deserve getting chewed up by the system )
