if you put zero stock in these concepts then how do we deal with meta and youtube wiping DropSite's archives over over 700 articles and videos documenting the palestinian genocide?
if the corporate monopoly over society also monopolizes control over speech, and speech IS controlled, then you may propose we divest and build elsewhere.
in this case, how do we deal with the propogation of misinformation and the violent efforts of the capitalist class and capitalist-controlled state in our new, divested structure.
it is inevitable that speech must be controlled and speech must not be free in any case where we go to revolution. you can't get everyone to come to the same conclusion against capitalist oppression through deduction. it's simply impossible
I think it's bad that private companies under law censor documentation of the Palestinian genocide, and I also think it's bad that they promote anti-human concepts and allow people to spread hate speech under the illusion of 'freedom of speech.' But it is beyond me. I said I do not support either because they are private enterprises. But one in particular leads to a slippery slope (co-opting censorship in a capitalistic society).
We have credit card companies/Paypal being the arbiters of morality. That is a problem to me.
I'll be brief, both the (true) left and right support freedom of expression for their goals but wish to restrict it once they seize power, I promise this isn't an enlightened centrist view: I align with ideals of the left as I believe it's beneficial to people rather than fascism, so I support what you say wrt controlled speech if there is revolution. It's necessary. Despite me being cynical with regards to freedom of expression (literally in my first point!!) I still think it's important to carry.
Also, even from a liberal perspective, freedom of speech is violated--inconsistencies are justified by court rulings. I've read over a dozen similar cases in the United States and Canada in-depth, and it happens more than you'd think. Similarly, it can be bent under your idealised alternative, depending on what it is, but I see it as a noble goal that should at least try to be consistent. It's why I find it important personally, but it's not of primary importance.

To an extent, he can't win with certain people
Some people see him as horrible because of his religion or race/skin color, or that he dares to even mildly be adjacent to socialism
And its often pure islamophobia, racism and so on that people are fueled by including the mainstream media
But then his criticism from the left is that democratic socialism is still a project that sort of extends a lifeline to capitalism while still effectively exploiting the global south and not doing much to really alleviate the core problems, as well as he sort of muted his more radical takes during the campaign so as not to scare people and appeal to normies etc
Some people will not be happy with really anything that happens within electoral politics which i understand because it is a corrupt and captured system in more ways than not, but thats a whole other thing
My take at the moment is just that hopefully he can get some quality of life reforms and set the example that things can improve and for people to be less scared of the "S" word. He's only one dude but it reflects something about how people want change and that theyre ready for better things
His proximity to or existence within the dem party (although the elites of the party have completely refused to acknowledge his victory) is cringe to me personally but i understand why one would take this route to access power in the way that he now has.
We'll see what happens. Most important thing is people realize regardless of who gets elected to any position the jobs not finished and there is a necessity to genuinely learn from this situation, and be able to actually criticize why or why not certain actions he takes are positive or negative etc.
He won because his campaign mobilized tens of thousands of people who wanted a better future and that should remind people how much power they have and for that energy to also be used outside of election season
Talk about the limitations of the office or the person holding it without people throwing tantrums either way
TL;DR Don't get too caught up in the guy to where you stop paying attention to the other things surrounding him
I think cancel culture was anti freedom of expression, to a degree.
this guy is more terrified of cancel culture than he is by Republicans wanting to bring back McCarthyism or Democrats wanting to make minority report a reality.
Lol
