Sampa the Great's album was dope. She can spit.
Found this guy in a Billy Woods interview:
In recent years, music from all over the African continent has gained more interest, with popular music scenes in Mali, Nigeria and South Africa. Whereas, at least to our knowledge, so far little “artsy” modern music has come out of Zimbabwe, the evolution of African music is astounding. Skinny Pelembe, an artist born in South-Africa but now based in Doncaster (UK) has recently signed with Gilles Peterson’ Brownswood Recordings. This is the third track of his second EP, Spit/Swallow.
Posting music made by non-African citizens with African heritage shouldn't count
Just because someone with African blood made the music doesn't make the music African too by osmosis or some s***

Not sure if you're referring to Sampa, but she was born in Zambia and raised in Botswana. Skinny Pelembe was born in Johannesburg.

this is currently in rotation, I wonder why this doesn't get much recognition or praise. It's one of the best produced tributes to African tradition. I'm sure you'll appreciate it <3
