nah gemini is actually one of the higher ones for trading now, but they have fast/low cost fiat on / off and their long term security is great given that it is ran by bitcoin billionaires and has FDIC like insurance etc

US i'd say coinbase pro or binance.us, or kraken. but metamask+eth is mainly where the action is anyway so exchanges aren't as important anymore so maybe i'd look around yourself. i haven't kept up with the latest in a bit regarding fees and all that. you can probably find some good signup bonuses right now

there's some decent programs/sites out there that automate this to a large degree and make it manageable for you to figure out the basics. if you're not dealing with crazy high numbers it's ok to get that down for now and wouldn't worry too much about it
