Use a contract scanner and see what % of the supply the dev owns or airdropped to other wallets. If they own a large amount or airdropped to other wallets it's a pretty good indication it's going to rug.

Although they usually just buy their own coin to avoid detection but they'll usually own a large % of the supply so pay attention to activity of large wallets. If you notice they start selling it's time to get out bc 9/10 times that's the dev's wallet. Although a coin can survive after devs sell if the community is strong enough but that rarely happens as I'm sure you have experienced already.

Also join the telegram group of the coin you're in and just monitor what people are saying and the general sentiment around the coin. Usually people will say when the devs are selling and if you start seeing messages get deleted left and right, it's a rug usually.
