it's golf but with throwing discs into baskets, instead of hitting golf balls into holes. Every throw is a stroke, and you "win" by having the lowest amount of throws compared to whoever else you are playing. That said, it's a great sport that you can play on your own as well.
This video below gives a decent general overview
while it's still a growing sport, you may be surprised to find a course or multiple courses in your city. And the nice thing is they often are FREE. (Some might have a cost of like 5 bucks, but these are not as common).
To find one, you can just google "disc golf course + your city", or try out dgcoursereview.com, or use the app UDisc (udisc.com). I recommend the app as other local players will comment about the current state of the course (like if it's closed, is super muddy, hasn't been maintained, etc).
Most sporting good stores should carry a few discs. Average price is maybe about $10 a disc, some cheaper, and some more expensive. If you happen to live near an actual disc golf store, they might even sell used discs. This is another way to lower the cost of just getting some discs to throw with.
To go over quickly there are three types of discs:
driver (farther distance, lower accuracy)
mid-range (mid-distance, mid-accuracy)
putter (shorter distance, higher accuracy)
Now there are other features of the discs that will make each one different than the other such as their flight ratings, or the material the disc is made out of. For example, this a collection of the Buzzz disc I found online- it's the same disc, just different versions of it (ignore the smaller discs-- those are just mini's, which you don't use for throwing)
If you've just started, I would recommend starting with a putter. If you want an actual disc recommendation, I like Innova Avair, and Dynamic Discs Judge .
It's true, putters will not go as far. But, it's a bit like in north american football - just because someone can throw the farthest doesn't make them the best quarterback. Disc golf is not JUST about throwing far. Starting off with putters will help you learn how to throw, aim, and control a disc. Once you're able to consistently have the disc fly parallel to the ground, in a general area of where you're wanting it to go, then you can move on to other discs. By learning through this process, you'll be able to find that the variances in the way the other discs fly are due to the discs, and not yourself for lacking a consistent throw.
If you do want to try out a mid to start off with, I would also recommend the Discraft Buzzz.
There are endless videos on youtube on how to throw. I think most people have some idea of how to do a backhanded disc throw- or it comes more naturally than learning a forehand throw. The following videos will help with a backhand throw. I would start with the first video, and try to follow what they show- it provides a good baseline. The following two videos are pros giving tips on how they throw. Each will have gems that can help you get to a better form and throw.
anybody here play?
anyone thought about trying it out?
post your favorite discs
post your favorite courses
putting this here instead of sports sxn as i know a good amount of ppl that are into it as a way to chill and relax as well

i ended up scoring my best round out of the 5 times ive played this new (to me) course this last month
im trying to get top ten score of the last 30 days, which im 3 points / throws away from
i also bought this disc just cause my s/o said so
and this putter:
theyre a new company and its their first disc. kinda excited to see how it throws
u end up going or buying??
No lol i had a busy ass weekend and didn't get the chance
i was debating getting a get freaky but wasnt sure, but i know they had been hard to find for a while
i asked my friend what he thought and he was like "ill just send you one"
and he sent me the cyclone too
so this is an even whiter version of ultimate frisbee?
so this is an even whiter version of ultimate frisbee?
Lol they might be neck and neck
But joking aside, Its appearance and decades long held stereotypes I think really puts people off from tying it out (like I straight up didnāt try it when asked cause of preconceived notions)
Even watching pros at tournaments, they have this lame ass look with the clothes they wear that just feeds into this image that really doesnāt represent it completely at all.
given its huge growth in the last year, I already am seeing changes with the people that are into it, so Iām hoping that will begin to disintegrate the long held notions and image its had. Tbh, recently itās been a huge influx from people that mostly played basketball. As someone whoās favorite sport was always basketball, I guess I find a similar feeling in that like basketball, disc requires accuracy, but finesse and touch as well.
Idk man, I would really recommend it. just buy an 8 dollar putter and try it out sometime tbhāhopefully you got a nice course near u

So I sadly ended up losing the get freaky zone this weekend. I was trying to get a hard curve to the left, and then have it fade to the right, but I didnāt put enough angle on it, so it just went upā¦and way to the right. It wasnāt far from where I threw it but it was over some trees, and when I managed to get back to the area where I threw it, it was nothing but cacti
I did buy a replacement though cause I really did like it
Anddddd I also got this new putter recently
It feels great, and is tacky and soft enough to stick- the only thing is that is drops hard after you throw it. but that just means I can really throw it harder and not worry about it traveling to far past the basket in case I do miss. Itāll also likely do great when Iām putting with a lot of wind
