but he simply would not have gotten elected otherwise
defunding the police is extremely unpopular nationwide, because it's extremely unpopular with the average white man

however, protesting the police while trumps in office = even more inflammatory rhetoric
protesting the police while bidens in office = there is at least a far more significant chance he will have to make concessions

furthermore, we have a generally democratic system right now, which means that general policies do have to be at least bearable for the majority of the nation. huge changes won't be accepted happily. especially given how people alive during vietnam are very much still alive, a lot of these super progressive changes are viewed as evil communist ideas. as hoes die, as the GOP struggles even more, and as the democrats gain more of a stronghold, we can definitely shift everything more and more progressive nationwide

the democrats are not your friend. the democrats could have a super majority rn and what would happen? they wouldn't pass policies that are friendly to the working class. there is no significant chance biden has to make concessions lol. He won the election while constantly telling any sort of leftist that they can go to hell, and guess what, those leftists still voted for him to get trump out, so why should he care about their demands now? If a policy is "unpopular" you talk to the people, you get them to see how it works in their best interest.
