so i saw super m last night
ive put up some highlights on my instagram stories =>: https://www.instagram.com/prettyhow/
some thoughts- dont read if youre going please
i dont know the spoiler tag, nor feel like looking it up
ok
so overall, since its inception, the marketing/rollout/ and even the concept of superm has been corny/cringey/meme-y/etc.
i wish they didnt go on ellen and teach her to jop
i wish every headline wasnt "avengers of kpop"
that said
i will see taemin in any capacity if he's in the united states.
so that's mainly why i was going. i did love jopping since the jop, and given how ppl lose their s*** when this is blasting, i was hugely anticipating hearing it live with a full arena going berzerk.
so this was the notion going in: see the 5 superm songs, and let's see what taemin does solo, if anything.
taemin is the first to do his solo, and he starts off with Danger. i was stunned!!! never in my wildest dreams did i ever imagine being able to see that song live.
im falling asleep typing this, so ill try to just cut to the important take-awayy
the thing is the avengers of kpop unfuckingfortunately f***ing fits. the show did feel short. and things didnt really flow all that great in terms of transitions between songs. some of it felt kinda..generic. the concert set up. just kinda like something you throw together last minute.
that said, when it came to performing, these dudes were unreal. like....i forgot that these guys are some of the most popular members from their respective group who can honestly do a solo concert if they felt like it (or have already). they played some new songs, and all but one were more or less pretty good. without much thinking about it, it was one of the funnest and best concerts ive been to this year.
also, seeing everyone's lighstick for different groups all change to the same color and be coordinated with each other blew me away.
aw man, no jopping or no manners vids?
have to live vicariously though your experience cause tix sold out for the show near me
I got this theory about why KTT folks hate K-pop so much. KTT is obviously a hip-hop online community. When "It G Ma" by Keith Ape (NOT K-POP) came out, there was all sorts of talk about cultural appropriation and how they ripped off OG Maco's song. Keith Ape and the other guys in the video had been around for a damn good while, but because the video was going viral, people mistakenly thought it was just a racist mockery of black people. Lots of people blindly followed whatever others on the Internet were saying without taking the time to do their research about Keith Ape, KOHH, etc.
Now they subconsciously relate any Korean popular music to that video and song even if BTS or any K-pop group is harmlessly rapping without doing anything that would be considered cultural appropriation. K-pop and Korean hip hop are NOT related.
I feel as though Korean hip-hop artists generally don't do anything problematic either. N-word (the "acceptable version") never gets thrown around. If anything, they're respectful whenever working with or encountering American hip-hop artists.

ppl hate it because its the current Hot Topic item of this generation, but the exception being that this niche alternative got really, really, really big. so they see that s*** everywhere: on tv. at school. on twitter, doesn't matter what tweet. on instagram stories and s***. and of course, the worst aspect of it all, as with all things, the fans. they're everywhere and annoying.
otherwise, kpop is the same anything else. has its good, has its bad.

That's a big part of it for sure. It's like how Justin Bieber haters were everywhere. They hated just to feel cool. It's toxic energy. I get that K-pop fandom can be annoying and toxic at times, but that's no different from how fans of American pop can be.

Incoming:
First annual KTT2 kpop awards
1st step: submit categories
I think we might do a two part session
In which
1) we nominate and vote on categories divided by girl/boy groups, solo artists, etc
Then once those results have been revealed, we will
2) vote amongst the winners for an overall winner in each category
Anyway, so let's see what categories we can think of. Ultimately the categories we choose will be dependent on how many nominations we can get for each one cause I'm trying to avoid categories that will draw too few nominations, but that'll be something to worry about later. First step are the categories. I'll post what we come up with in the op.
