What kpop s*** you actually been listening lately?

Nothing honestly. I haven’t listened to K-pop like that since New Jeans first debut.

  • Lmaooo

    This was great

The rapping is whatevee, the guest is amazing

There's something to be said in I found/find things more enjoyable when it wasn't made for me, but I could peek in and observe, versus something that is being made and catered for my attention.

I feel you. Tbh I have found big releases stale but I'm determined to the find the good in it again

  • I could sellbmy bts tickets, and go see aespa and yaosobi at lollla instead

    🤔

Ehhh I'll chill on my judgment until later today I guess.

Okya let's start - - body to body

The line of cringe hip hop is such a thin line, but it truthfully is comforting to hear each voice again

Very polished but I wouldn't expect anything less at this point

  • Hooligan

Pretty sure el guincho did this one. Not surprised. Bro is on another level with his creativity.

Jimin singing "chopped and screwed" 😂☺️ I love it. We really back in the old days.

  • Aliens is okay

Fya is a little too repititive

2.0 kinda dated a bit but it's fun

  • Swim is a bust tbh. It didn't have to be

  • lock this thread man smh

Merry go around basically asking Ai to make bts sing a tame impala song

Yeh sorry, I basically couldn't get into my Twitter account, cause I thought that was the best way to sign in back when I made my account 😑

Anyway, as far as inactivity, it's been trending that way for the site in general. Whole sections going hours from last post. Crazy and sad to see.

When I had the opportunity to check out the new thread, no one had posted in over a week, so I was like well I guess not much has changed so I just posted in here. It's okay, I understand. Truthfully, no on really responded to my posts anyway 😅 so no difference in whatever void I'm typing into. This one is just easier to navigate to and I like going thru old posts

Merry go around basically asking Ai to make bts sing a tame impala song

Yeh work exploded so I couldn't focus really.

I did listen to rest of albun, and it was very reminiscent of jungkooks solo. The best ppl can say is there is such variety of "styles", which only matters if the songs are.... good.

Theyre not bad but... soulless? I know people will mock and beg what kpop songs actually have a soul, but it's the ideas that their songs had a sense of identity to the group itself.

It just feels like bts singing other people's songs. The English thing is a f***ing crucified, and cremated dead horse, but even still I see ppl saying "well, it's the best way to get airplay" as if we didn't just have a man perform entirely in Spanish for the superbowl. Quite simply, I don't think they, or most groups, make good songs in English.

  • Honestly, the album was better? than I expected, from what I remember. It was only like two listens?

And it's not like I have to avoid stepping on toes, or try to not seem I'm not as trash or simple minded as I am so with all sincerity I don't know if I'm feeding into this idea as a manner of self preservence of relevancy (or avoid the idea I'm getting old) or if it's truthfully something that's taking place.

The idea is that this album is kinda representative of what I feel has happened with kpop.

It had its own identity, and yes, it yearned to break into the west ( T-ara n4 in Las Vegas ) but I felt like they did what they could with what they had.

It got more popular cause it offered something different while striving to be something familiar. And it got to a tipping point where the understanding shifted from "maybe others will listen?" To "what will the west think?"

Kpop finally got what it wanted, and it only took losing what made it kpop.

Just korean avatars to display over things we already had.

  • I love the op because I was on one when I wrote it. At the time, it was mostly a joke, but it just rings truer now more than ever.

  • Omgggg I hate her so much

  • Dok2... Lee hi

  • Also reminds me, ever since Lee hi came back, and they did the aomg world tour that... never.. came.. To North America at least. Insane. I was always waiting for it.

  • It's been a while and I have time:

BTS comeback: it's been a deflating ride. What is it? Is it them? Is it me? Is it (baby) army?

Idk tbh. It seems there is a general feeling that this album is Map of the Souless. Ppl say it's a return to old sound? Or a nod to their old sound? The way there is a huge gap between what people perceive this a return to form or a brief allusion kinda speaks to the fandom they have. What's interesting is even those two groups are splintered in what it all means for BTS. It's a return to form and you're just baby army. It's not their old sound and you're just baby army to think so. As always, exhausting to read all these pointless takes tbh.

Ultimately, the songs are just... not great. Bad songs used to be things like Mikrokosmos. Now there's maybe two songs in this album I would listen to over Mikrokosmos.

In the end what does it matter? Does BTS hear the criticism that they've released something so tired and insepid? Or are they just affirmed because of all the records that have been broken? Just how bad would somethng have to be for their music to not be streamed? Is it actually possible for them to recognize they've failed?

I think for this comeback the answer is no. Bts are unique but they're not different in the grand scope of things. It was impossible to imagine someone bigger than a Suju. Big bang could never be topped. Exo were too massive to be replaced or forgotten. Everyone returns to earth. Just not yet for BTS. Soon tho.
