Nortit’s definitely an accessibility thing. record labels were picky gatekeepers that developed the talents of their roster. Now anyone has the potential to go viral on tiktok.
Exactly,labels don't even have to invest in an artist come up like that anymore,they market themselves. But the result of that is that,I don't think labels even believe in their artist anymore,its 100% business now. You had execs that were fans forreal of some artist on their label and let them cook and be creatives. S*** like that doesn't happen anymore.
Last time a label really experimented with a act was Death Grips with Epic/LA Reid

Its something to it for sure,I think in those classic eras we always talk about,everybody cared in one way or another,to get the end products we got. Its just 100% business now,artist are assembly line workers

I mean yeah but the modern mix-ins have kind of gone. Even bands like Black Country, New Road which have somewhat similar acclaim that like Vampire Weekend had when they were new don’t have the same widespread exposure or discussion. We just move farther and farther away from monoculture and the fragmentation kind of prevents artists from reaching the same kind of tier that those in the past did.
