Yes but I will definitely make some changes last min

Yes, the battles can become improvisational. Make sure to have at least 5 songs that can replace others in the setlist JUST IN CASE

His best work was already with the Ruff Ryders, unless you're tying to play Bring Em Out, Listen Baby or Spit Your Game.

You can't use Swizz like that or I'd be able to use Ye and it won't be fair. However, maybe we can switch the timeframe.

Unless it's on a Swizz Beatz project like Shyne was.

How about we make it to 2010 instead of 2005? That way you can include Good Love, It's Me B****es, Tambourine, My Drink n my 2 Step, Letter to Big, etc.

    I’m not using Swizz.

    And 2010 is fine

Their 90s and 2000s catalogs are so radically different

Yeah, so me and @saveme are doing the label VZ because there was always a rivalry between both camps and because a label battle hasn't been done yet. Then I realized while compiling my setlist that this would be a nice appetitizer for the main course HOV vs. DMX and I don't want to reuse songs, so I'm going to save the hits for that battle and just use a few Hov cuts for Rocafella vs. Ruff Ryders. Hov was the perfect balance of mainstream and streets. You seen rappers try this before but they would f*** up the mix so bad. That's why Fabolous and Jada never had a classic album but they had classic songs. That 8 album stretch (Blueprint 2 was good) was and we still haven't seen any other mainstream rapper do the same. The second part of my post was about Doom vs. Earl. I want it to be more focused on the quality of the songs and not hits. That's why I hope there's more underground VZ in the future.

i liked the Lupe Common VZ because i discovered a lot of s***, but it's hard when you use big names. like again, what happened with the Lupe Common VZ, stans pop up. it's just what stans do.

the label VZ sounds nice. i know you ain't repping Ruff Ryders but i wanna see some Eve joints, i didn't even listen to her much, really but of the few videos i peeped of her while growing up, she kinda unlocked that femme gangsta that i didn't even know existed in me. she was special. wouldn't normally, but i might be rooting against you just cause of her

i feel like these VZ's have become their own thing now. they kinda belong to the public now lol. and that means there's gonna be a lot of popularity contests where the bigger artist will always win, the rules can help, even the self imposed ones. maybe not to the extent of them always needing to be there but at least for some specific cases.

I know. I was going into my Three Six bag before @Tubig reminded us that y'all still had the battle in the TBA list. I was beyond overwhelmed by the body of work but there's songs that immediately came to mind before I even checked the archives and this was at the top of the list because it's underground but still well known to the fans

Me and @saveme were talking about Eve the other day and she has so many nostalgic hits that resonate with us. Her toughness didn't seem forced just to attract male listeners. Eve always seemed authentic. I didn't even feel anything from a female rapper until I heard "Love is Blind". A song like that transcends gender. I know the big 3 he will use and I'll be prepared for it. 1 of them is unbeatable though, so we'll see when the time comes. Let's put it like this, it won't be the first time I've voted for a song played against me. I'm a music lover first and I respect a good song. I agree. What kind of rules do you think will be necessary equalizers?

Honestly I can’t remember where I first heard Cass, but the verse I remember the most from him is the Salute Me remix

I’ll never forgive Swizz for this, this is literally cancer in audio form

When the beat switched and Cass spazzed I respect Swizz for his attempt and somehow convincing Metallica to even do this but yeah not his best moment

idk really, i think i like that they've been popping (and not popping) up organically depending on the situation/matchup. like the understanding of each situation from y'all has been dope to see.

@saveme You going the the Lox vs Dipset route, relying on Jada features lol I only have 3 Beans songs but I have songs for just about each Rocafella member lol even 2 members nobody remembers

I’m just gonna do what I’ve done for all of my previous VZ’s.. go through the entire discography, write down the hits and well known songs and my favorites.

And then from there just refer to my list as I’m posting. I have roughly 45-50 songs that I’ll eventually cut down to about 30-35.
It just makes it easier for me, I’ll only do a VZ if I’m familiar with both artists, so I already know what I’m going to counter against.

I probably invest too much time into this tbh but I like it, it makes me feel like all the time I put in listening to these artists was for something. It gives me gratification lol

  • @saveme I respect your approach. It’s the same with me and I’m very OCD about whoever I’m listening to and it’s always been that way. There’s a lot of us here that share that in common. The preparation and “oooh I’m gonna kill ‘em with this!” (The crowd, not you lol) is what makes it fun as well. Sometimes I have a tough time between choosing personal favs and crowd pleasers but I always reluctantly go with the latter.

The Jada verse is from a song that you already mentioned lol I can’t tell you because if I do you’re gonna be like i remember that song. You’re gonna be mind blown when I use it though. One of the songs and NOBODY ever talks about it but they’ll be reminded soon.
