been listening to an amazing Lovesexy era live bootleg and was kinda caught by surpise how he was doing some of the kinda pushy weird religious stuff back then. doesnt ruin it for me but just found it interesting to hear him in 1988 basically on the rainbow children vibes a bit. the cross feels different from that too

Prince‘s biggest pitfall as an artist was his lack of quality control. Just wish he practiced what he learned on PR with all his following albums.

i had a misconception that he suddenly became religious/spiritual like that as a reaction to his sexuality instead of them being intertwined the whole time. like some of his sexual/general funk stuff I see in kind of a spiritual light now. like the feeling of a lot of songs on Purple Rain, even the hypnotic funk ones like DMSR and Automatic. im seeing his career now as some kind of balance between an axis of love, sex, music and spirituality
