And you know the context of the song? how he wrote it near the beginning of his relationship, released after they divorced

doesnt change the sound for me

and also radiohead lyrics in general don't hit me very hard. like their emotional moments still hit hard for me sometimes but not for the lyrics mostly

I think it would help if the lyrics had a more linear plot to them but Thom says he doesnt like to do that

you can't win if you change your sound they hate it and say the old sound was better (billie) or if you stick to your guns nerds online say it's derivative and she hasn't grown

That’s why you gotta tune those nerds out and do what you do.

I think the key is to either dive headfirst into a new sound and wait for people to grow into it or slowly evolve over several albums.

Staying stagnant sonically is the worst. You gotta do SOMETHING a little different from the last, even if it’s divisive.

crazy how you could just mute the vocals and let that piano ride for 20-30 seconds and it's an all timer/auto classic

already are saying that about the cover art and photoshoots/aesthetics

Well those are quite similar looking She doesn't need to quite switch it up yet since it's still early in her career but if she shows hints of "risk" taking here and there it's enough imo

Also wanna add an important point: people don’t actually know what tf they want.

They don’t want the old music from you, they want you to recreate their old memories attached to your old music, which is IMPOSSIBLE to do. You gotta tune all that bullshit out and force them to make new memories they’ll be much more appreciative of down the line.

That too! I hope there is otherwise you're gonna get "girl just made the same album twice" comments everywhere

Seems like a weird harsh reaction to an artists second album

What does every band have to progress with every release now

    Two albums can't be similar

they should follow kanye's album templates for progression he did it quite well for the first three albums

just develop the original sound further and fine tune it and then switch it up as you go along

but these pop producers are basically AI humans and just rely on formulas and proven things

Moreover: “Funk Gets Stronger”; the titular track.
