It’s always so satisfying when the back half of albums are as good as the first half and it’s getting exceedingly rarer

Why you saying this like I don't know

But in the past it was different cuz you couldn't just skip easily to whatever you wanted. And when you got the ability to skip more easily you still had to change the cd etc.

Yes a lot of albums were still just compilations but they were still expected to be listened mostly together. And since end of vinyl lp peak Era it has been changing. Both good things and bad things to this

I don't really mean experience vs Playlist album, I mean more people just picking songs to listen individually. All these wallen listeners aren't listening to the whole album all the time they just listen to a ton of the tracks in whatever order or amount they want

I think ur take is romanticizing older albums

Most successful artists in every era would have a hit or a few on an album with the rest being "album filler"

2000s pop albums would suffer from this a lot, but it really goes to a lot of genres. Experience albums have always been few and far between.

I'd say I don't understand how Janet won over Whitney because the former imo has a much stronger catalog, but Whitney does have a 50/10 voice and has classics so I respect it btw

But Janet is a top 10 artist of all time for me

No, I keep making sure to specify I'm not romanticizing older albums or saying one way is better than the other instead of just being different

I don't believe in filler but if I did I'd agree that older albums (generalizing) have more filler. And the most filler would be first half of the 60s and the 90s CD Era peak
