The worst concert I’ve been to but I understand now the dude was struggling hard and I’m glad I got the experience him live once.

I can understand why you wouldn't like that guitar tone that much but it works for the type of music they make. It's very "in your face" and crunchy.

Can't believe you don't enjoy their riffs though. i only felt the way you did when I first listened to Cowboys from Hell. Their breakdown riffs are sooooo f***in heavy especially on "Vulgar Display of the Power" and "Far Beyond Driven".

i definitely liked Cowboys From Hell more than Vulgar Display of Power but admittedly I only listened to the latter like 3 times because I really wasn't feeling it all. and i kind of assumed the stuff after that would be continually more "groove" sounding and less thrash like Cowboys was so I stopped there. im not really one to go crazy for "breadowns" in this type of music but yeah im liking those riffs and the other ones more than the main riff of the song if that makes sense. like in Rise the main riff in the verse does basically nothing for me but the part at 3:37ish is pretty fire. i guess the ones i dont like as much are the ones where theres like no melody at all. not that i need a ton of melody in my metal but there's just something about the ways these type of bands do the purely rhythmic riffs like at :42 in Throes of Rejection. the intro leading into that riff is nice and then its just...nothing until it changes up like 20 seconds later into a pretty good one. the whole part around the solo in that one sounds good to me

i might give Vulgar Display another try or listen to more from the few albums after that
