Macs family and Jon Brion deserve ALL the flowers for Circles.

They could not have handled that s*** better. They sequenced it perfectly, rolled it out perfectly and did a great job with the Good News music video and the visualizers.

That’s the blueprint on how to do a posthumous release.

His last tweets and such so eerie too tho. I remember hearing So It Goes and legit thinking it sounded like he was gonna die/ he was saying goodbye. Ik the ending that’s kinda the point but i super distinctly remember that feeling then it passed and a few weeks later :/

That’s what happens when you actually love the person whose music you’re releasing and respect their legacy but I think as s***ty as it is to say. That’s a luxury Mac’s family was afforded that some artists families aren’t, given circumstances or their own poor choices monetarily

In short Mac’s family doesn’t need the money

YES.

Its in my top 3 Mac projects just behind Faces and Swimming. Beautiful project they put together. It doesn't feel like a compilation. It feels like an actual body of work that I feel comfortable including in his main discography.

if the artist isnt around to put the body of work together, its difficult for me to appreciate it

Keed Talk To Em 2 was a saddening listen because his vision for it didnt match what was released

It’s a really loving posthumous album, leaves you feeling warm and it’s lowkey the best way they could have ended his discography. It helps that he worked on a lot of it before passing so it’s not just random songs

My only qualm is I’ll always wonder what it would have sounded like had mac finished it not Jon Brion

Macs family has done such a good job, I wouldn't mind them putting out a compilation or 2 of unreleased Mac songs.

Its not like X's family or MJ where they b******ized the unreleased material. They have so much unreleased Mac that's 100% finished that they could do it no problem.

But i respect them so much for refusing to compromise his legacy in anyway. Because trust me if X had the vault Mac does, We would've had 10 posthumous X albums by now.

It wasn't that far off from being finished.

Obviously Jon Brion sequenced it and cleaned up some of the songs and added a couple songs that weren't meant for Circles like Blue World, but I would say he album was 85-90% complete when Jon Brion was commissioned to work on it. It was not a half baked project at all.

The rap album i assume was probably only 30-35% complete which is why they never followed up Circles.

They’re in a tough spot just bc it does kinda f*** up the discography if they drop one even tho they can. They could drop entire cohesive albums from the vault for years before just grabbing loosies. But I do respect their restraint as much as I want to hear new songs they’ll never be “new” Mac Miller songs and that’s a real bittersweet feeling

Oh for sure it’s more of the purist in me on that one. I wanna say it was E Dan or ID Labs who said they just couldn’t work on the album posthumously bc it wasn’t the same without his input given how involved he was even when he wasn’t the producer on the song. And that’s kinda how I feel to a much lesser extent.

Well they'd just need to emphasize thats it is not an actual album. Circles will forever be his final album aside from Maclib. If people went into it as a collection of songs rather then a whole body of work, I think that'd be ok.
