save me’s review of strangeways, here we come

i did not like this album on 1st listen.. so i got up 4 10 mins.. took a walk outside, thought about why.. came back in & started my 2nd listen.. it didn’t really change much but at least on 2nd listen i don’t dislike it as much. listening 2 this album has honestly felt like a chore, there are a few songs i actually love (see below) but as an overall album it’s not very good & not something i would ever recommend 2 any1. lyrically it’s fine, i really love the lyrics on paint a vulgar picture, very well written. the lyrics on girlfriend in a coma are actually hilarious, i wasn’t really paying attention that deeply on 1st listen but then i read them & it caught me off guard. morrissey is 1 cheeky b******. musically it’s about what i have come 2 expect from the smiths, nothing mind blowing but it works. oh & another thing i need 2 mention, i absolutely depise some of morrissey’s vocal inflections, specifically like on i started something i couldn’t finish.. like what the actual f*** anyway let’s continue

death of a disco dancer - i believe this is my new favorite smiths song, this s*** is excellent. the lyrics, the music but most importantly that outro is just beautiful.. wish all of their songs hit me this way, 9/10

last night i dreamt that somebody loved me - giving me cure vibes with that intro, i love the haunting & unsettling vibes this song elicits.. 9/10

girlfriend in a coma - absolutely hilariously depressing.. i love the guitar on this song, very good song i like it, 8/10

unhappy birthday - i feel like they were kinda going with the girlfriend in a coma vibe with this 1 but unfortunately it doesn’t quite work well, it’s a very lackluster & quite frankly boring song
