If they released the version intended for Thriller, it'd make the purpose of their remix for Michael obsolete. People wouldn't wanna listen to that version anymore. So as a compromise they gave us a version from 1982, but not the polished one.

This is my favorite of their mainstream albums, it feels like the best blend of their earlier blues garage rock sound without selling out too much
