I really think he damaged it in the Recovery era and he made it work with MMLP2, but it just doesn’t hit for me anymore.

Shame, because prime Em had one of the greatest deliveries ever. Like 2007 Wayne and 97 Biggie.

It’s because Slim Shady as a concept and character doesn’t work in 2024. Houdini was a good song, but it was clearly built off the nostalgia of classic Em, rather than bringing anything new with his old character.

TDOSS was him clearly telling us he doesn’t really like the character anymore and wanted to give his fans closure with it. Problem is though, the genuine rage and commentary that made him so beloved to begin with is completely gone. So you’re left with “Oh no the woke police are out to get me”

Which might’ve worked as a concept in 2016/2017 but Em clearly couldn’t read the room. People are being back to being edgy and obnoxious on the internet and IRL. So either he should’ve brought the character back like Relapse and gone all out with the non PC stuff or just not done it at all, it was a half hearted commitment.

Tobey is the type of stuff he wants to do and will do in the future from here on out. Shady is done.
