Like a Camillimanei think the reason popstars like taylor or lana or billie or chappell put so much effort into the aesthetics, tour, music videos, visuals because they know pop music past a certain era/style is inherently boring and uninteresting from a music standpoint alone
if the music could stand up on it's own as nothing else then people like madonna who was a giant wouldn't have been changing her look every single album post like a virgin or deliberately creating controversy to stay in the minds of an average person
the whole genre is built on being accessible and easy to listen to/all demographic friendly which is detrimental to interesting/unique music. everyone seems to have 1 album of a popstar they really like/love and the rest don't connect as well and i think it's because all popstars are basically good for 1 classic album and then after that are automatically boring because the rest of their catalogue is the same s*** just reskinned
Half agree with ur point. Even if u don’t like their music i feel like those popstars and among newer ones do put more effort into making solid discogs as opposed to popstars back then when u wouldn’t care as much for their albums aside from 1 like u mentioned.
This mainly applies to popstars from the 00s and to 10s to a certain extend. Britney is an example id use for this
