Like I’ve known what you meant but I’ve been trying to tell you that “processed” isn’t being used as rigid by these experts.

But ultra processed foods and foods that have unnecessary additives (what most people refer to as “processed” foods) are not nuanced at all, they are worse for you than the recommended diet by Canadian nutritionists.
When people complain about processed foods, nobody means pre cut fruit and cooked rotisserie chickens.

and I’m sure thats generally true

I’m just pointing out there’s types of processing done thats beneficial and/or necessary

Right but nobody is against that and when people say processing thats not what they mean. Also the article was about ultra processed foods, thats what the experts in the article were referring to. Which even you conceded has no health benefits.

There are no experts talking about processed foods meaning the broad term youre saying in any articles or examples we are talking about.

I’m only going off the excerpts you posted from the article. Maybe they are referring to “ultra processed” food in the way you are and I missed that. Idk!

They did the specify ultra processed foods as not being bad for you always, which is factually incorrect. Which leads to my point that the NYT is most likely bought out or owned by shareholders of these companies, which leads to people to distrust the media as this is clearly factually wrong. Which of course NYT has advocated for many wars and lots of evil things, its not radical to be distrusting of a publication like that.

Many public health and nutrition experts say that ultraprocessed foods — which make up an estimated 73 percent of the U.S. food supply — are probably a factor in the obesity crisis in the United States, and it would be beneficial to cut back on them.

But other researchers say that the obesity epidemic is likely a result of many entangled factors, both environmental and genetic, and that the phenomenon may have started long before there were ultraprocessed foods.

The category is also wide-ranging, and it’s not clear if all ultraprocessed foods are harmful, experts say. There may be downsides to avoiding some ultraprocessed foods, like flavored yogurts and whole wheat breads and cereals, they add, because they can provide valuable nutrients.
