WESLEYS THEORYI just don’t like how overtly sexual some mainstream music has gotten in the writing in recent years.
I’m not a prude you know…sex has always been content in music and it sells. But female pop stars getting uncomfortably explicit and Bruno Mars talking about “Fat, Juicy and Wet” P**** just turns me off completely.
I guess it’s different in rap because alot of rap has had an edge and vulgarity to its content, which fits. It doesn’t feel like it’s trying to be “mature”.
I liked 2000s R&B when it came to how they wrote about sex. It was obviously sexual and mature, but the writing was so much better and well written. Actually felt sexy and not just trying be adult.
Agree with this so much. Older R&B is so f***ing classy for the most part. Even an overtly sexual song like Peaches and Cream is still subtle enough to be timeless.
