its true but im still feeling like it might be worth to try to lessen that stuff when possible. i dont think its completely over in terms of data privacy on a personal level

ive been using locally hosted models that still give basically as good answer for basic stuff. but the searching the internet feature is kinda too good and idk how to do that locally for now at least. also inputting images

even tho i think chatgpt is amazing i really dont trust sam altman or openai or microsoft much all all

like for one thing i think disclosing medical stuff or using chatgpt as therapist to disclose deepest secrets is something i would stay away from

    I agree with you.
I hate medical documents are digitized at tbh, its a big reason i dont see therapists anymore.
The hospital back home was hacked and ransomed and they lied about what was stolen for years

if info about your health, especially mental, was just widely available theres a lot of potential to be used against you by companies (whether its just advertising, charging more for insurance, making it harder for you to get job etc.) or government (things like having a profile on you, flagging you as high risk for a crime, forcing OpenAI to share their data if youre suspected of something). whatever entities using massive data sets to modify behavior or influence you. the more you give away, the more could be used against you. and even if we trust these companies now thats all subject to change. and OpenAI especially is a hugely powerful unknown RN that i think could really go off in either direction

also risk of data breaches is very real, big companies have been showing they dont care about security that much. even if nothing bad happens with chatgpt itself

i dont think this will happen in the absolute worst case scenario and all the examples i said wont happen. but i also dont think its going to be the best case scenario where all this personal data we give out for free will never be misused by anyone in ways we dont want it to be. reality will be likely somewhere between so id try to reduce the potential for unwanted effects as much as we can

    yeah exactly

not sure how canada is looking in this respect but specifically for the US as a whole i dont think we are going in a good direction with data privacy compared to some other places

Canada same as us and us companies has as much data from canada as canada does from canada.
But ive been saying that for like 15 years, i didnt get facebook until like 2018 when i needed it for my career. It’s disappointing seeing how complacent people are in giving away their information and how normalized it is.
Hopefully we move into a fully encrypted world in the future which i think we will eventually.

sometimes i feel like a crazy person ranting a manifesto about this s*** but i think its a really important thing the average person has no idea about or understanding of why its a problem

i feel like a lot of people are somewhat aware the future we are heading into but at the same time just think "they already know everything about us anyway, whats the point" and are content to spam usage of all the social media sites, google products, smart or fitness watches etc. etc.

    I know me too.
I think the whole they already know everything about us angle is like a psyop put out and promoted by these companies to make people more complacent. I guess thats kinda a conspiracy but thats what i think.

People used to be so concerned about this stuff 15 years ago and now if you care people make fun of you.

People should be discerning with what they use but it will only change when the government mandates encryption and makes buying selling data like that illegal. Which wont happen for a long time.

And society becoming more reliant on a lot of these redundant technologies that do nothing to benefit people other than taking your data is a problem too i also kinda have a similar conspiracy theory view on.
