San Diego was made a saint by the same Spanish king that the Philippines is named after ( Philip II).

The story of how he became a saint is pretty crazy. One day the king’s song got hurt and wouldn’t wake up. So he used Diego’s corpse to try to heal his son. After his son got better he begged the pope to make San Diego a saint… the king also had an automaton made of him that still functions today

Historians speculate what healed him was the hole they drilled into his son’s head prior, which alleviated pressure in his skull
