Camille Golightlyguitarists are a weird and unique species in the world of music, they're more concerned with getting gear and quality equipment than practising but the other half only practice and have terrible sounds, bad ideas and can't write interesting or connective music

which, to a guitar or drum teacher.. thats cool!
but idk if it makes for good music

commonly hear that criticism for literally anything where theyre clearly good at the instruments though. like instead of them not liking the music for other reasons its easy to fall back on "theyre just showing off". especially pronounced when people hear a type of music they dont understand at all (because they havent been exposed to it much). Simplified example is any guitar solo whatsoever just sounds like showing off to some people who don't like guitar solos, they cant fathom that it might actually fit the artist's vision to play that way
probably a lot of reasons why you wouldnt like dream theater because its almost the polar opposite of what id imagine you enjoying ngl
