But it's just not fun
Just pick writers and characters you like and pay attention when they are involved in larger events if you want
That makes sense. I like stuff like the killing joke where its just a self contained story within a universe

the universe always resets to the status quo as well so you don't have to worry about canon/non canon events

Large events are just excuses to modernize things and create new series to sell more and attract new fans

The movies all build towards them now like it should be the main focus for comics but it really isn't even half of the appeal to most people
