Thats powerful, definitely wanna live life with no regrets. I respect and admire that a lot man. You sound like you’re doing it for you. I’m too much of a people pleaser, I always put other ppl’s needs before my own…. one of my worst qualities

honestly though, same man. i give up my needs/wants a lot to help out other people. my mom was like that to a fault so i guess i inherited it.

i learned to be a bit more selfish as i got older but its still a struggle and something i talk about in therapy still, especially when it comes to relationships (platonic and romantic).

Its a s***ty trait, esp bc this is my only chance at life, so I really wanna try and work on it. Its only one life man, everything I knew will cease

There was a girl here no one liked and she could kinda tell so she went around asking people if like people had something against her and no one would tell her but me

And I just told her that we thought she could be pretty annoying

She took the criticism well and we got along a bit better after that

There’s a guy here who almost certainly has autism or just likes guilty gear just a little too much. He’s not well-liked but we discuss nerdy stuff at length so he’s quickly become one of my favorites.

just have to take what you wrote (its only one life) and really ingrain it in your brain and try to make your decisions with that at the core

its tough though easy to type it on here but hard to do it every day especially when the options might seem hard/scary/new etc

(also to be fair, not every decision should be prefaced with "yolo" lololol)

This girl said she has autism but like barely idk how that works

I didn't know that until after I informed her that people thought she was annoying

She said it like made her always want to overshare information and be overly helpful by "teaching" things

Was like an hour long rant about how her autism worked and by the end of it the content seemed redundant

But we did get along better after it and I felt a bit bad about how honest I was with her but I think maybe she appreciated it

Its funny the stuff we inherit, I wonder sometimes if my mother played a role too.

Its weird, between the two the whole people pleasing bending over backwards act might actually be the more selfish option. Just hurting ourselves

She probably did. I’m sure it hurt in the moment to hear but in the long run thats life-changing feedback to receive from someone tbh.

For sure, there’s def a middle ground fr. Just finding it is tough, but I guess we’re growing and changing everyday. Its weird figuring out what your own boundaries are

It didn't help with some of the other employees though

They didn't really care about that explanation and were like "I don't care if you have autism" basically

At that point it seemed mean spirited so I didn't really entertain hating on her after that

yeah super weird. im so used to listening to other people set boundaries and adjusting myself to those but its honestly been empowering to start setting my own and holding onto them, although it has caught some people close in my life off guard but in a good way

that sucks. good on you for being honest with her and giving feedback though. even if it maybe felt bad in the moment i agree with Nort its probably a good thing and personally as someone non neurotypical i'd appreciate the honesty.
