PurrpI’m learning for pretty much the same reasons and then also getting into my culture and realizing how much I felt left out now knowing Spanish on top of it
Other than that tho I disagree to an extent in the sense that it takes little effort to learn a language as you’ve been seeing. Just time. Not saying people have to but as far as financial security that’s poppycock I was broke as s*** learning it anyway bc I wanted to. Wanting it is a big thing for sure
dont you think its a lot harder for some people though? i dont think im willing to buy into the idea that for all people its just this easy. yeah i know in school they teach it horribly etc etc but i feel like some people will just naturally struggle with what we are doing now even. and for them it would be painful and just taking more time to make progress

I def want the community of learners to grow
but it's probably best to keep it as like a hobby than a requisite for peeps
I mean since starting DS my general opinion is just foreign language learning in the US sucks as a whole. Sure if you wanna not make it a required language that’s fine I won’t die on the hill but we could def just make the process better
An hour a day of Spanish, or French or chinese or whatever immersion / input classes k-12 would be a significant improvement
The way we learn it currently is a joke and contributes to why people laugh it off or scoff about it when it’s not really a brag that you can take 7 years of a foreign language and retain/ Learn nothing
