I smoke when I drink it’s tradition
Financial advice from the upper middle class white guy "have you considered that you guys are maybe treating yourselves a little too much like humans?"
Well no my point was that you might as well buy a $10 watch instead of a $1000 watch. Because at the end of the day it’s going to serve the same purpose with really no difference.

oh here you go again
Like if you buy a $10 watch instead of a $1000 watch and put that $990 in a savings or growth account instead, you’re setting yourself up for success. It’s not about being rich
Whereas if you buy a $5k+ watch, it will grow in value so it acts like its own savings account in a sense

Which experts disagree with, and denies anyone from having anything they like until they have hot a certain tier of wealth to be able to afford buying the goods approved by you
Because buying too many nice things is why people are broke. That's how the system is holding people down not unfair wages or increasing the cost to live

It’s not the goods approved by me. It’s the goods that appreciate in value. I don’t decide that, society does.
Obviously unfair wages and increasing costs of living are the major issue, but if you add financial illiteracy on top of that, it really is exponentially worse.
But I was making the example specifically of watches because a $100 watch and a $1000 watch are basically the same from a utility standpoint. If you buy yourself a nice TV that costs a lot and enjoy the s*** out of it, that’s great. I really was just making the case for watches alone.

Mans never heard of hobbies
How is buying a single $1000 watch a hobby
You can’t start a collection without buying the first one.
Watches once you spend > $500 aren’t about utility anymore it’s more of an art piece depending on what you buy (I can’t condone rolex purchases).
Watches are so useless in this age. I got a phone f*** i need to look at my wrist to find out the time for?

Rolex purchases make much more sense because you don’t lose money the second you buy it.
Plus you buy a $100 watch it’s worth $0 the next day. Buy a $1000 watch it’s probably still worth $700 maybe $800 second hand.

On most you do now. The only ones retaining value are the ones you can’t buy anyways. (Sub, Daytona, gmt, etc)

Buy a $5000 watch (maybe 7k now with inflation) and it’ll be worth 10k in 3 years
Rolex makes like millions of watches per year it’s entirely hype that drives their prices. Other brands have actual craftsmanship.

lol no
lol no
Go look at watchcharts.com.
Only watches that retain value are $15,000+ and most are the type where you need to buy 5+ watches first before they allocate one to you. That’s why the prices stay high.
Rolex on average has increased 7% over the last 2 years
Sure but go look at any of the models you can actually walk in and buy.
Two tone datejust, ladies datejust, maybe an explorer 36mm.
All of those will be down YoY.
