And he considers himself ace now apparently so he thinks that validates him being able to say it. He’s clearly not saying it because he hates LGBTQ people, I think you can agree on that.
Like if you say Ed to your friend, it doesn’t mean you hate people with mental disabilities. It’s just a different context of use.
i dont think its as bad as saying it directly about a gay person, true
but i think its still rooted in homophobia. i agree hes not using it because he straight up hates LGBT people but I dont think the line for homophobia is straight up hatred
the reason its an insult is because its calling them gay connectingit with a negative thing. its not just coincidence that the derogatory word for a gay man is also just a general insult for a non-gay man
its a separate convo but i dont really fw saying ed that much anymore for those contexts and im trying not to say it anymore

I’m not condoning it but I also wouldn’t call someone a homophobe for doing so unless they were a literal homophobe in general otherwise
I don't know if I'd necessarily call them a straight up homophobe for doing that but i'd just say that language is either homophobic or makes them seem homophobic which they probably aren't really intending
a lot of the times its an ignorance thing in those cases i think, people just throwing it out among a group of friends
