fuegoLearning just how to find a note based on hearing a song would be cool. I’ve always wondered how artists do that. Even when they hit like 3 or 4 different notes first the fact that they can find it at all is impressive to me.
you could already do it now if i gave u like 2 hints
music is just all recycled ideas
there's only so many chords in regular music that isnt jazz

no that's exactly right, one of my friends in composition class had perfect pitch and the way she knew was that the CD of an album she was annoying her and she kept saying to her parents "can't u hear it's out of tune" and then once she started playing violin she realized with her teacher she had perfect pitch so they practised learning all the chords/types of intervals etc
Ah so the perfect pitch allowed her to recognize something was wrong, but she needed the training to be able to identify exactly what was wrong and why?

how could she know a half diminished chord if she's never been shown that chord for instance

basically u can work out what a chord/note is by knowing what another note sounds like
I mean I guess he could have been like just trying to show students something cool and like making it seem like more than it was and not explaining it fully

u can look outside a window and see a tree and immediately know in ur brain it's a tree without clues but if you've never seen a tree you couldn't name it

it's good for arranging/playing because u dont need to read sheet music or rely on someone else

we had a piano in our home and when i was a toddler i'd always bang on it which annoyed them so they got me lessons
i remember hating it as a kid like 5-11 but when i was 12-13 a switch flicked because i started to win in recitals and shows

I definitely don’t have perfect pitch. I once made a beat and sent it to a friend and he’s like “you know that third note is out of tune right? Not the right key” or whatever and I’m like uhhh I think ur wrong cuz it sounds good.
