Well they still have that amount of hours constantly being immersed and hearing the sounds and words of the language

1500 hours is like 3 months or something

A child hears YEARS of speech man before even starting to fumble with talking

Grammar study is also more important than DS says it is imo

A few IG vids cleared up the use of Se for me like 5 mins lmao

yeah another reason i dont like the diehard child-like a***ogy

You never learned grammar as a child! It's not natural!

well now as adults we are smarter and can learn in a different way that will speed things up for us

Yeah I had studied grammar some before doing DS and it helped me make some sense of what I was hearing and helped a lot

It’s hard to make myself sit down and do it now but point is it helps lmao

It’s something made up by a lot of grifters tbh

The doctor that they reference says that you’ll eventually improve with time and input

Speak when you want but he says group identity is what prevents people from getting a native accent, because they feel “embarrassed” to force an accent

The man who made the company that makes money from us watching videos...also claims "you shouldn't do else! just watch more and more of our videos"

Yeah kids babble and copy their way to language speaking

I think a large part of like blocks adults face is having a fully formed ego that doesn’t like to f*** up and put themselves out there unabashedly

    Kids don’t have that

this 100% true. for all learning as an adult.

ppl are like im too old to learn this. like bruh if u started something at 35 that took 10 years, youll have it by 45 and then have another 45 years to enjoy it lol

people get beaten down by life and lose confidence too much where they are too averse to failure. kids dont have those preconceptions and just barrel into s***.

I mean despite that - legitimately an invaluable resource DS is to a point and a great tool for language tracking in general

Very interested to see what other languages roll out

i legit still remembered some of the grammar and other rules type stuff when i started back up again after my long break

knowing the patterns of where the stressed syllable goes in the words all those years ago was legit like a cheatcode moment

yeah thats how it kinda feels

honestly im still kinda unsure of a lot of these things cuz Idk what its like to start from scratch doing this vs. a long break

i had a friend hit me up saying hes wanting to start learning spanish totally from scratch he was starting with some youtube video series and already apparently understood Duolingo is bad

the narrative that the diehards run with takes that a***ogy to a point where it doesnt make sense IMO

    yeah the immersion is key

but also kids get reinforcement from their parents constantly when they are speaking. and exactly like you say, when they start speaking they barely know any words. the purists act like babies learn almost fully natively the language and then only start speaking

yeah im not very tapped into the language learning scene at all, all the languages i learned i learned as a kid and picking new stuff in montreal i never did any classes or stuff i just talked french to people and remebered s*** i didnt know.

but i have no doubt ppl get on like that.
there’s SO much bad information about how to learn skills online.
when our parents generation and before was our age, the most important skill was information seeking, knowing how to use libraries and academia to find information and experts. in the modern day, theres so much information seeking it out is no longer a skill, its discernment.

thats simplified u need both skills to varying degrees in both generations. but the weight of importances changed a s***load

they do for sure, but they dont even know what language is or what theyre hearing at first. other than like certain sounds having certain cues.
its pretty close to trying as soon as they can

Yeah it’s just a willingness to put yourself out there and be cringe which is a skill you can absolutely learn

Being able to overcome and live in cringe is like an invaluable skill (haven’t fully learned it yet)
