Apr 30·edited·2 repliesrvimy headphones kinda hard to drive and need it. at least my best pair do. i have sennheiser hd650 which i think is honestly kinda fine raw dogging but audeze lcd-2c needs the power to drive
nothing against tubes at all i have no idea but i just picture funny steve hoffmanites blowing thousands of dollars on tubes that do nothing and look like a mad scientists lab
The HD650s scale suuuuper well with nicer amps, and they're pretty hard to drive effectively but even a decent entry level amp will do wonders. Same for the lcd-2c. Didn't know you knew Audeze ball like that
The HD650s are also like THE headphones people pair with tubes. Even a small hybrid like the Vali 3 (with a different tube than the stock) will sound super cool, but a full OTL tube amp (pricier and not compatible with most headphones) will turn them into magic (only if you like a really warm sound tho)

i only use hd650 when im listening to music before sleeping cuz im able to lay on top of them laying on my pillow which i cant do with audeze ones

Honestly speakers have a higher quality ceiling than headphones so I don't blame you
S***'s expensive though, plus I live in a tiny apartment so I can't really make the most of it
I have some decent bookshelf speakers for my turntable, but they're really nothing special
I just like headphones cause they're way cheaper and you can buy a bunch of really nice pairs to do different party tricks for the same price as one pretty good speaker setup
